Appendix F: Filename Extensions for Uploaded Files
In order for files uploaded by the Upload Graphic, Sound, Document, etc.
option to function properly, the file must be named with an appropriate
filename extension. Without the proper extension, files will not be properly
presented on the world wide web. A filename extension is the portion of a
filename from the final period to the end of the name. For example the
extension portion of the filename index.html is .html.
The following is a list of common web filetypes and the extensions to use
when naming them for uploading:
| Extension | File Type |
| .txt | Plain ASCII Text Document |
| .html | HTML Document |
| .pdf | Adobe Acrobat PDF file |
| .gif | GIF graphics image |
| .jpg | JPEG graphics image |
| .snd | Basic Audio file |
| .mid | MIDI Audio File |
| .wav | WAVE Audio File |
| .mpg | MPEG Video File |
| .mov | Quicktime Video File |
| .wrl | VRML Virtual Reality File |
