Section 2: Entering the HCC Manager Program
To make changes to a web page, update a directory, add a New
Manager, or do anything other than view a web page, you must enter the
HCC Manager Mode. Before entering the Manager Mode for the first time, the
Site Manager must create an account so your name appears on the Manager
List. The Directory Manager then grants you access privileges to the page
and/or directory for which you are responsible. The Site Manager should be
able to give you the Directory Manager's contact information. As long as these
two requirements are met, you should not have a problem entering the
Manager Mode.
- Set your web browser to view an HCC-created web page. If you are
updating a specific web page, go directly to it. To make changes to a directory,
just select any web page within that directory.
- Click on the check mark at the end of the web page to access the
Manager Mode. The check mark is on the left side followed by the phrase
"This web page is maintained by Manager Name
(emailname@email.address)" (see figure above). To be an HCC Manager, you are required to
have an email address (see Appendix C if you don't have one). If you are the primary manager for the specific web
page, your name and email address will appear at the bottom of the page. The email address gives
someone viewing the web page a way to contact you about the page's content.
- Enter your Manager Name and password in the authorization window.
After clicking on the check mark, a small window will appear with blanks for
a Manager Name and for a password (see figure below). You receive your
account name and
password when the Site Manager issues your account. This information must
be entered into the authorization box exactly as it is in the Manager List.
Both the Manager Name and
password are case-sensitive, and you must enter capital and lower case letters
as they were initially entered. When you type the password, the password
is not displayed. Instead, an asterisk (*) or black dot appears for
each character you enter.
If everything is entered correctly, your web page will appear with the
gray Manager Mode box at the bottom. The Functions available to you in the
Manager Mode Box will depend on your access privileges.
(The image below shows the box displayed for a person with Page Manager privileges.)
If you enter your name or password incorrectly or if you do not have
access to that specific web page or directory, a window will appear informing
you that the authorization failed. You will be offered the opportunity to try
again. If you are sure your name and password are correct but still cannot
enter the HCC Manager Mode, contact your Site Manager.
